Lifeboat Heroes 

True Story

Years ago, I was shortlisted to have a story read on BBC4. The story I choose for the list is Lifeboat Heroes. Though my short story is fiction, the story behind my story is fact.

The story is of a RNLI rescue of a Polish ship stranded at the mouth of the River Tees. I know the story to be true as one of my late uncles was a member of the lifeboat crew who were awarded a gold medal for bravery that night; the rescue was on the front page of the local paper for weeks after.
