The Dockland Murders
Lac La Biche
Looking out of the bedroom window this morning, I was reminded of my last visit to Canada, when I stayed with a friend, who died that year, in Lac La Biche, Alberta.
Faye told me the lake froze so deep, they drove trucks across the lake to the villages on the other side, I can well believe this, when I left in early November 2009, the air was so cold the salt water splashes on the shore had turned to icy fingers; it was from this scene I had the idea for my police story.
You admire the drivers for their skills, but it isn't until you see the drills, as I did, that you get an image of what the drillers use. The drill I saw was as wide as a car, and as long as three houses.
The Russians gave themselves a major issue in 2012, in a race to drill the deepest hole, they lost a drill. They forgot the basics of science in the urge to dig deeoer than America. The longer the drill, they harder it is to control, now they have a drill so deep they cannot recover it.
