Why write if Amazon give your work away?

The only difference between Piracy, and Kindle Unlimited is you are giving the stories away with Kindle Unlimited.

Years ago, I entered one of my eBook selection in a Kindle Free Weekend, in the hope it may gain sales, it bombed, and never recovered.

I have had eBooks on Amazon for over a decade, my bestseller on the site has only sold 20 copies in that time, that is because twice it sold seven copies in one weekend.

Freebies do not bring sales

When I was putting writing for sale on Amazon, other writes used to say, "put your work in the Freebie section, it will bring sales."

That is to put it politely, hogwash, of all the freebies I had taken up, less than 1% brought a sale, it is the same principle as the lending libraries.

Some writers I used to know, did benefit from Kindle free weekends, but it never happened for me; the same as I never had the Christmas rush for eBook sales. 

I was not angry at what was happening, I accepted some things for some people, but not for everyone.

Draft2Digital

The main reason I stopped adding my eBook supply to Draft2Digital is they subscribe to lending libraries.

What this means is the reader pays a site, Kindle Unlimited is an example is a good example, a monthly fee, and they can read as much as they like, what do the writers get?

Unless you are a name like Stephen King, nothing.

I have some eBooks for sale on Apple, otherwise, if you wish to read what I write, you will need to read the blog.

If you think by not putting them for sale, I am losing sales, I can tell you in the last five years I have earned NOTHING, what can I lose? By putting them here, at least I may get a rise in my blog readers.

One discussion I had with a friend in Seattle was she said. "If you don't put them on the sites, they won't get read." True, there again, I have no proof my writing is being read. at least if I put it here, I can see if the posts get read.
