Places I would have liked to visit

The Ship Inn

One of the places I wished I could have gone back to is Saltburn-by-the-sea, the Ship Inn, the setting for my award winning short story - Sea Ghosts - from 2012, is shown on the right hand edge of the houses in the picture I took during the 1960's.

The house is haunted by the spirit of the inn-keeper's daughter, who died as the age of 4, from pneumonia

It is my belief the human body is an energy container, and what happens in science is matter formed can change, but not disappear. Boiled water turns into steam, then back when it touches a colder surface. Nobody has proved to me, that ghosts do not exist, I know there are fakes, as in all societies, but nobody has proved they do exist either.

The short story on this post is based on the life of John "Mad Jack" Adams, who was a pirate in Yorkshire, his daughter's ghost haunts the inn on Saltburn-on-the-Sea inn he used to run for decades, she died of pneumonia at the age of four.

This is a photo I took in the 1960's, the inn I mentioned is on the right as you look.

To this day, years after the book, Chronicles of Mark Johnson, earned an award for me, I keep being asked, why don't you sing your parises?

The answer to the question is based in my philosophy, "Self-praise is no praise," I would rather repost a reader's comment, than say how good it is. It is the same when it comes to the Self Promotion of the Forgestiker series of 7 eBooks I wrote at the same time (2012). Though the series sold over 1,000 eBooks, I rarely mention it.

Another short story that I rarely talk about is Sea Ghosts, a story which earned an award given by Facebook for coming third in a writing contest, again in 2012.

I recently checked the MS for Chronicles, and I decided to re-edit it, as my skills as an editor have expanded

Rudyard Kipling

I would say most people have heard the line from Rudyard Kipling's poem, Pook of Pook's Hill, "Them that ask no questions are told no lies."

It depicts the story of piracy during the 18th century on the coastof the UK. When times are hard, and food short, be grateful for anything. Wreckers were common along the shores, these people would move beacons used to guide the ships through safe safe channels to pull them onto rocks, then rush to the scenes to pick what they could, killing any survivors of the wrecks.

My short story (shown here) is a fictionalised version of the life of a man who led a double-life, one one hand John "Mad Jack" Adams was a king's man who checked for the smugglers. On the other hand, his knowledge of the shipping, meant he became one of the most feared pirates along the coast of Yorkshire.

This story has a sad ending, only told in my story.
