The title of this Thin Man movie, reminds me of the time I returned to Yorkshire, in 1974, the year after my grandfather died.

There is a big difference in our reception though, Nick was able to please his father. The only thing I got praise for was joining the Royal Air Force, the following year. That I think was more so my parents could have their lives back for six years, as I learned later, I wasn't wanted

For decades, there has been a story spread by Hollywood, that John Dillinger was lured to his death, by a lady in a red dress as he entered the Biograph Cinema to see a Myrna Loy film.

It is part fact, but a lot of Hollywood hype.

I am a shadow of my former self, partially from a different style of cooking, and partially from a limpoma on my neck.

I am not bothered, I was overweight before, and being lighter means I am not such an issue for my friend, Svitlana, in Didcot, Oxfordshire to cope with.

The romances of William Powell read like a Thin Man mystery. His first wife was Carole Lombard, but though they loved each other, they were different personalities. He loved her until she died. She went on to marry Clark Gable, and died in a plane crash that haunted both men.

His second wife was Jean Harlow, she died of blood poisoning, probably from the bleach used to keep her blonde hair shining for the camera. Her first husband was Paul Bern, a director who could make a star with one phone call, he died in a way that has never been certified. The official verdict is suicide, in those days, you phoned the studio before the police. Mr. Bern left a cryptic note for his wife of three months, and he also had a wife he'd put in an asylum. Some people think she killed him as a lady like got on a ferry, but didn't get off. Jean died only 5 months after her first husband.

Buying goods from YouTube channels

I have several Lupe Velez films I can relax with over the next week or two.

I have bought several t-shirts like this one from the store which helps one of my favourite YouTube channels, Hollywood Mysteries. I did plan to buy the Barbara Stanwyck shirt next, until the brought out a Carole Lombard shirt.

The other one I will buy is for Peter Lorre, the William Powell shirt is questionable, as I have the Thin Man shirt

The premise of this Carole Lombard - William Powell comedy amuses my friend, Svitlana.

The story centres around a game played by rich people, who try to choose a down-and-out to change. Carole chooses William, without realisng he is playing his own game.

A year ago, I ordered the Thin Man series from eBay of films for my wife, they never arrived before her death in January,2025.

This is where the mystery begins. The set was supposed to have been delivered, and handed to me, but I could not find the DVDs, at first I thought I had misplaced a small set. After having a second set arrive, months later, the mystery only deepened, the set is wider than than the spread of my hand, how could I misplace, and lose such an item?

One answer comes to mind, they were delivered to the wrong address, and the people are dishonest, and kept my DVDs.

This afternoon on eBay, I did something I haven't done since my wife passed away in January; I eneres a bidding contest.

My wife, and I enjoyed The Thin Man series with William Powell, and Myrna Loy, so I decided to enter a bid for the series.

I have other sets from this era with Lupe Velez, Mae West, and Fred Astaire, with more lined up.

I keep to a strct set of rules when bidding, never go higher than I can buy off another buyer, and watch for unusual bids. The issue with online bidding is you don't know how high the other bidders could go.
