Hindi Cinema
Sexism is rife in Bollywood
Recently I have taken to watching films from India, to most people this would mean Hindi movies, but there are several major areas of cinema in the state, one of the largest being the cinema of Bengal centred in Kolkata (Calcutta).
I prefer to watch the movies from the 50's to the 90's, at the time they were films with music, since then the trend is for musicals with a bit of acting; an example being the film series Race.
The first film began well, but after 20 minutes of singing, I checked the listing on IMDb, to find the film of 2 hours had over 1 1/2 of singing.
Another thing I dislike is the cinema is run by, and for the Three Khans - Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, and Salman Khan - it is hard to produce a film in Bollywood without at least one of them being in.
Another annoying thing is because the industry is run by Anil Kapoor in the North, ladies get very minor roles, little more than romantic interest part, though many of them are the equal, if not better than, the male leads.
It is worse than Hollywood in the 1940's.
In Hollywood it was Clark Gable and Carole Lombard, William Powell and Myrna Low. In Bollywood it is listed as male lead, second male role, female role. The difference being the separation of the names indicating the status of the actress.
