New areas to explore
Lebanon
I am always intrigued as to where the blog is read. Not surprisingly, I had some readers in Israel, as I posted a lot about Israel on the other blog.
As a rule, I rarely get noticed in the Middle East, so today's readers in Lebanon are a boost.
I rarely write about money, I have no concept of the life of the wealthy, so getting readers from Hong Kong, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates did surprise me.
I used to get a lot of readers in Russia at one time, mainly I think because my stories can be understood there, more than anywhere. I have said often, on the old blog; I write stories more like Len Deighton than Ian Fleming. My heroes are closer to Harry Palmer than James Bond, as I can relate to HP. I had to turn down an offer of work as a ghostwriter, on the Upwork site, as the client wished for a story in the Bond mode, and I couldn't relate to the scene.
When asked what style I write, I usually say I write more like Mickey Spillane than Jane Austen. I have nothing but admiration for Ms Austen, but in my books, if something is in the book it is there to aid the story, not fill the pages.
An example of this came from the book "The Moonstone," by Wilkie Collins; a friend told me I wrote like Mr. Collins, so I bought a book to see his style. The story started well, then it hit a big immovable object, he was describing how to strip paint off a door - for over 15 pages - when he could have done it in a couple of pages at most.
