The love triangle between Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, andd Franchot Tone is well-known, what is less known is a more triangle which had more serious results for Franchot. This one ended with him being in hospital with a fractrued jaw for several weeks.
The second triangle ended the career of an upcoming actress called Barbara Payton, once tagged as a future star. Miss Payton was dating former actor Tom Neal, when she fell for Tone, Neal was so angry, he caused a fight that put Tone in hospital. She married Tone, but kept seeing Neal.
This incident marked her as "box-office poison"
