Louise Brooks was the epitimony of the "flapper girl," young, attractive, and carefree.

After surviving World War 1, "the war to end all wars," the USA began a new era were life was lived to the full, for a decade this was the age of exuberance. 

This era brought new hope with the conquering of Mount Everest, yes, I believe Mallory and Irvine did reach the top.

Then, everything collapsed with the Great Depression of 1929, and the age of plenty gave way to the endless struggle to survive. At this time, Germany began to develop the Weimar Cinema. Several Hollywood icons began their careers at this time.
