A ghost story with a mystery

This short story is one of two I wrote after listening to Gospel singer Vestal Goodman.
At the time, I was going through a bad time, trying to reconcile some things I had done, and relief in the songs, that didn't happen. I came to the conclusion that what I did was the best for my furry friend, as he was suffering terribly with a recurrence of cancer.
I don't miss the religion behind the songs, but I do miss the singing.
I turned a religious song of faith into a ghost story with a mystery.
