Louise Brooks
Public Enemy
Public Enemy is the story of two actresses, the one who turned down the role, and the one who became a star after this movie. 1920's icon Louise Brooks was offered the role, but she demanded more than the company was willing to pay, and she wasn't easy with the early "talkies," as she made her name in silent movies.
The company gave the tole to an unknown, at the time, actress called Jean Harlow, as the say, "The rest is history."
LB faded into obscurity, becoming a "kept lady," much like her character in the film, Lulu.
Jean went from strength-to-strength before her tragic death.
